#Healthhacks #17
What a disappointment you get when you follow the diet religiously but end up bouncing- back the weight. This leaves you to think with a grim expression. Isn’t it?
No! It’s not your fault that you started eating some foods from the basket of your choice after shedding a couple of pounds. Maybe you are still not able to manage the hunger hormones.
Hormones are the chemical messengers of our body. Leptin and Ghrelin, commonly called the stop and go hormones respectively, are recognised as the two major hunger hormones.
Leptin is the satiety hormone made in fat cells. It is a powerful appetite-suppressing hormone. The more fat cells we have, the more leptin the body produces.
Ghrelin, on the other hand, made in the stomach. It guides you when you’re hungry and need to eat. It is made in the stomach primarily, and it’s released when you haven’t eaten for a while. As the stomach empties, the release of ghrelin increases. As soon as the stomach is filled, it decreases.
Regardless of body fat percentage, ghrelin hormone levels increases and make you hungry when you start following a low-calorie diet. This is a natural response by your body, which tries to protect you from starvation.
The higher the ghrelin levels, the hungrier you will become. While its lower levels suggest a feeling of fullness. That simply means you are eating low calories food. So if you want to manage your weight, lowering your ghrelin levels would result in better weight management.
So, remember these hacks if you are really serious to lose or manage your weight.
- Don’t starve your body by following very low calories diet plans. You can rather opt for Intermittent fasting.
- Eat more proteins for the fullness.
- Go slow with weight loss journey to avoid bouncing back your weight. Understand the food portion size and serving size.
- Maintain your sleep cycle.
- Don’t entertain processed and refined food items.
- Say yes to Probiotics in your diet to improve the gut function.
The moment you say diet, it sounds like something you’re restricting. This is the reason why the majority of people consider “diet” as a quick or short-term solution. It’s time to bring healthy behaviour to your routine. That will only bring you a sustainable result.
I hope you would have understood the role and function of hunger hormones in the body.
