As promised, I am here with mental wellbeing hacks in continuation to the previous one. Today’s post is about returning moms at work who have to go through a huge transition shift.
Does your workplace cooperate with returning moms? What sort of wellbeing programs is being provided?
Some of the workplaces really treat their employees like family. They try to provide the best they can afford to. But, many of them don’t bother to think much about this. Forget gender equality. Statistics show that the percentage of women chose to return back at work is higher than those who don’t wish for a comeback. As per the World Economic Forum, it will take another 257 years to reach workplace equality. So, till that time women will have to wait? Seriously?
Inhaling in present unpleasant seasons of COVID-19, the majority of employees are offered to work from home. And, so are the returning moms. But, the organizations are also expecting their much time on digital media. This again is a little troublesome but, at least you are with your newborns, isn’t that happiness is bigger than the discomfort?
Here are the hacks to keep emotional well being of returning moms at work.
Manage time for yourself
A healthy body carries positive emotions and caters good thoughts. Remind yourself to bring in practice how to have a healthy and balanced diet. If you are also struggling with the ‘baby fat’, you must come back to the early shape.
Understand the importance of physical wellness to keep the body and mind in control. To follow this it’s better to take an expert opinion from a certified health coach. Dedicate some time for yourself.
Treat yourself by making support team initially
You need support, unarguably! Try to make a support team as soon as you return to work. Nothing harmful in sharing and asking for support. Delay in your request may change the mind, do it at the earliest.
Be organized
Yes, you are rejoining work and that too from home. But, don’t allow this ease to make you disorganised. List out and prioritize your worklist. This will help you stabilize. Unless the emotions will hit you left and right. It will help stop the feeling of guilt for spending time away from your darling newborn.
Shout aloud for a wellness forum
The employers should make a wellness forum where returning moms can share and express their difficulties dealing with timelines of work. The idea behind making such a wellness platform is to control the anxiety level, and eventually, help them become a productive employee. The stress and anxiety of mothers impact badly on their children.
Demand cooperation
Demanding for wellbeing is something that can’t be ignored. As it directly affects business growth and work productivity. The big onus is on the employers and they are expected to cooperate with returning moms in managing their transition smoothly. Not every company can provide daycares or other facilities for the employees’ kids. But they can definitely provide other help like flexible working time, conducting online health and wellness platforms, webinar etc. for them to keep harmony between work and life.
A smooth transition back to work can be the difference between retaining a productive employee or losing her. An absence or ignorance of emotional wellness at work could make the workplace hostile to returning mothers. To make them feel like before and to add productivity at work, prioritize their emotional aspects.Depending on the capacity and resources available, employers may call for a mentoring session or provide them with a forum to raise concerns. Associate them with a ‘buddy’ as many workplaces provide at the time of joining the organization. The intention should be enhancing the emotional wellness and recreating the interest at work.
